Wuhan expands public participation towards environmental awareness (Google translation) Since 2007, Wuhan has taken significant steps to bolster public participation in environmental protection, reports the Changjiang Daily. In addition to increasing its own monitoring efforts, especially of local sewage plants, the Wuhan Environmental Protection Bureau also created a comprehensive website allowing citizens to access pollution monitoring information. MEP undertakes comprehensive investigation of drinking water safety (Google translation) The Ministry of Environmental Protection has launched a comprehensive investigation of drinking water safety around the country after several major emergencies in the past few months have attracted national attention. In the past week, Chinese news media has focused on several important public participation and environmental public interest litigation issues. The release of the China Software Testing Center’s evaluation of government website openness has generated discussion on how much work there is left to do. Meanwhile, local governments in Hainan, Hubei, and Yunnan are intensifying efforts to improve support for environmental public interest litigation and the creation of environmental courts.
